Our kennel is located in Belgium, right in the heart of Europe, which gives us a prime position for international trade. We have a herd of alpacas of varied origins from the great Australian, American and Peruvian bloodlines.
We have been developing our expertise since 2011 and thanks to our rigorous genetic selection, we not only place our alpacas at the top of national and international competitions.
That ‘s why we also supply our spinning mill with exceptional fleeces!
If you want to acquire alpacas from our lineage to create or strengthen your own breeding program, we will be happy to welcome you to discuss your requirements.
Below is some useful information to help you determine your priorities.
One important thing to bear in mind is that these are herd animals. So you must always own at least 2 animals of the same sex.
You should also plan to keep the males and females separate. If you can ‘t separate them, you can start with 2 females and use an outside breeding service.
First be sure that the animal is in good health, ask for its care record, check the facilities and find out where it comes from. If you ‘ re happy with the information and the animal has been well looked after, that’s a good start.
Depending on what you want to do, you ‘ll be looking for very different animals.
For some, this means ” a renowned sire “, for others it means ” low SD” or ” grey in colour “, and so on.
You need to set your own objectives.
That is the most important part!
You should, as with any animal, be well advised and well informed for a good start. Take time to visit us, we are happy to share our experience and will guide you according to your breeding goal. We are at your service by phone or email. For any question, information or suggestion, please contact us!
There ‘ s so much to know about this fascinating animal that it’ s impossible to cover it all here , but here are a few important facts about our protégés …
On your left, a suri and on your right, a huacaya. The latter, which resembles a cuddly toy, is much more widespread and is the one we breed. This photo from Pacomarca clearly illustrates the differences between the two. The huacaya ‘s fleece is soft, warm and fluffy, while the suri ‘s fleece is shiny and soft as silk, with long locks that look like dreadlocks.
Reproduction is an important and original aspect of the alpaca. The ovulation of the female is induced by the mating, so there is no cycle in our little camelids.
We’re very lucky breeders, as most of our puppies are born during the hottest hours of the day! What’s more, the births are often unassisted and the mothers are very maternal. In general, human intervention is therefore limited to disinfecting the umbilical cord and ensuring that everything runs smoothly for the baby and its mother in the hours and days following birth.
Your females will be bred by our stallions, who have won many prizes in the most prestigious competitions and whose bloodlines are renowned!

We reserve our shearing service for the owners of alpacas coming from our farm.
Eric’s training to become an alpaca shearer was delivered over two seasons: 2013 and 2014.
He was trained by a professional alpaca shearer, Colin Ottery, who came from England especially for us.
We are very strict with the selection of the different parts of the fleece. It brings a much better knitting yarn, very regular and much softer.
The alpaca shearing has to be performed once a year, usually during spring.
In order to shear them, the following conditions must be met:
We take every precaution and cannot be held responsible for any accident during or after mowing;
If the blade used for shearing alpacas suffers unusual damage due to the dirtiness of the fleeces (e.g. sand in the fibre) and we have to change it to finish shearing this animal, we will be obliged to charge a supplement of €10 excluding VAT per additional blade.
After several setbacks, we must now put in place a fixed compensation of 75 € exVAT plus travel expenses if the conditions listed above were not respected and if we had to return without being able to perform the shearing.
If you don’t have a suitable mowing area, we can install our arbour for a fixed price of €20 excluding VAT (including assembly, dismantling and subsequent drying ).
We have been working on the most beautiful alpaca fleeces and obtain a high quality yarn thanks to our selection and processing technique. This is a service we reserve exclusively for our customers, people who have bought alpacas from Alpagas du Maquis.
Our process, although machine-assisted, is still traditional, and each production run is unique. In fact, we can ensure the traceability of each fleece because we can also process small quantities.
We work rigorously and make it a point of honor to satisfy every customer.
You need to sort your fleeces at the time of shearing, putting only the best part (the saddle) in the bag to optimise the yield and quality of your yarn. Ideally, you should remove as much vegetation and undesirable elements from your fibre as possible. Billing is based on the incoming weight of your fleece, so the cleaner it is, the lower the bill!
If a fleece is really too dirty, we reserve the right to refuse it partially or totally. If moths are present, the fleece will be burnt immediately.
Our detergents and equipment are perfectly suited to caring for your fleeces to provide you with the best end product.
If possible, also throw away fibres that are too short, from a second cut. As well as adding to the cost, they could also create undesirable little balls in your yarn.
In short, the more you look after your fleeces when shearing, the better – and cheaper – your yarn will be!
Make sure you identify your bags correctly !
These top-quality products ensure that your alpacas are much healthier;
Beware of the food you find in conventional shops. Just because the bag has an alpaca on it doesn’t mean it’s really suitable, unfortunately!
Concentrated protein-rich feed for growth, gestation and lactation
Phosphorus-enriched beet pulp for optimal growth and lactation
Digestible forage composed of grasses and herbs
